Portal Sets: Supporting new tunnel heading or mine entry where rockfalls are possible and providing support for weak ground at the crown or brow during surface to underground transition. Fabricated from Wide-Flange Beams with V-Deck, channel, or liner plate lagging. Designed in rectangular, square, full radius arch, or long radius arch profiles and spaced on 4 or 5 feet centers. Often backfilled with rock or capped with reinforced concrete to dampen dynamic loads from falling rocks. Coatings include Hot Dip Galvanization and Epoxy-Based Protective Coating.
